Blue Ray Disk (BRD)

Blue Ray Disc
Blue ray disk will look like a normal DVD. But it contains more space. It contains 25 GB for a single layer and 50 GB for a dual layer. Recently many companies have experimented with blue ray disks.Some of the new disks have a space of 100 GB which contains 4 layers and 500 GB which contains 20 layers.


Blu-ray Disc have a storage upto 500 GB in one single disc. Blu-ray Disc is an optical disc storage medium designed to compensate the DVD format. This standard physical medium is a 12 cm plastic optical disc, the same size of DVDs and CDs.

Blu-ray Discs contain 25 GB per layer, with dual layer discs (50 GB) the norm for feature-length video discs and additional layers possible in the future.

We can store huge number of movies in one single disc. It mainly used for Full HD Movie(1080p, 1080i)



Comparison Of Blue Ray With Other Optical Devices


The optical device that we use regularly are
1. Compact disc (CD)
2. Digital Versatile Disc (DVD)
3. Blue Ray disc (BRD)

Compact disc
Compact disc has storage capacity of 700 MB. The use of this is to store music files and small storage of data.

Digital Versatile Disc
Digital Versatile Disc has storage capacity of 4.7 GB (Single Layer) & 8.5 GB (Double Layer). The use of this is to store movies and medium storage of data.

Blue Ray disc
Blue ray disc have maximum storage capacity than the above two. It uses special disc drives called blue ray drives to read the disc. Whereas DVD and CD requires normal disc drives to read the disc. The Blue ray uses blue laser to read the disc. The cost of Blue ray is pretty higher than CD and DVD. The cost of Blu-ray disc varies from Rs.100 to RS.250 with respect to storage capacity and company.
